Theater is a form of entertainment that not many appreciate. With a misconception that it is only for “cultured” individuals, many people miss out on how a live performance of a drama can impact a person’s thoughts and emotions. In cultures and traditions of most countries, theater serves as a tool that persuades people to take a stand regarding significant issues in their society. Even to this day, theater can help an individual reflect and understand his or her current situation.

Nothing inspires further thought from a person like entertainment. When people are amused and immersed in the performance they are watching, they become open to new perspectives. Unlike other forms, theater lets audiences witness a story as it happens to the characters onstage.
Watching plays and musicals can educate and develop a person’s mind. To enjoy a performance, one must be willing to listen and make something out of the dialogue, which is not always easy especially with classical plays. This activity helps a person develop new listening and language skills while harnessing the mind’s capacity to focus. In a play, it is most likely for a person will remember a line or two and apply it to everyday life.

As a theater student, I want to be a part of something that educates and entertains. Now that I’m already immersed in the world of classical and contemporary theater, my goal is to let others appreciate the art form that brought out the best in me.
